The Weekly Five: 05.22.15

Anna Leary – This Weekly Five is a few weeks late as sometimes happens. I hope you can forgive us! We’ve had so much coolness going on around here that we wanted to share the five things we’re digging right now:

  1. Rand McNally Road Atlas—do you remember when going on a trip you’d have to really be in touch with your atlas skills? When being a good map reader was a desirable trait in a friend or mate? Well, we went on a drive to southwest Missouri recently for our nephew’s wedding and decided our route because of the map, not GPS! Following the map home took us down through Memphis and that was a blast (even though we ended up hanging out for several hours, putting us on the road late). Viva la carte!
  2. SiriusXM satellite radio. Several years ago Kat of the VXT Crew got me a satellite radio for my birthday so I could listen in the car. I got hooked. Bad. So hooked that when we later went to buy a new car, satellite radio was now a must have. And then came the streaming capabilities of satellite radio online…and now that’s a must have too. SiriusXM has a rockin’ free trial so now you can get hooked too! Enjoy! (My favorite: Channel 36, Alt Nation. Kat’s is Channel 33, 1st Wave—all The Smiths you could ever want (if you’d ever want more).
  3. Target’s Cartwheel App (since retired – rest in peace). You download it. You can put all kinds of coupons in your “cart”—limit 12, and then have the cashier scan your app at checkout and BOOMTOWN! Savings! It’s even way cooler than digital coupons…why? I don’t know, but they feel cooler.
  4. We’ve been trying to eat cleaner in our home lately. No super-expensive coffee/mocha drinks with the green straw. No pints of handmade-daily ice cream in the freezer. And you know what’s a good snack that feels like cookies, but totally isn’t? The Perfect Bar. It’s like almond butter and cranberries and other protein-pick-me-up-but-still-tastes-sweet-like-dessert goodness. We find ours at Costco.
  5. Like to watch YouTube videos? Like to share those with the ones you love, but don’t love all gathering around your computer? There’s a solution! Chromecast. It hooks into the HDMI port on your TV, there’s a simple set-up, and then you can just press a small icon and voila! Your videos are now playing on the big screen. Also great for those indie, web-only series you like to watch late at night about the power of positive thinking and kismet. Oh, are we the only ones that watch those?

We hope you have a fantastic weekend and we’ll catch you on the flipside soon.

Be well.
